The hope of drawing childhood heroes Arsenal in the next round of The FA Cup is what is driving Torquay defender Chris Todd on to victory this weekend.

Conference side Torquay take on League One Brighton at Plainmoor on Saturday, and Todd is confident his side can follow up their win over Yeovil in the last round with another league scalp.

"I love The FA Cup," said Todd. "It is a very special competition. We did very well in the last round and the boys are all excited about this weekend.

"If we were to win I would love to draw Arsenal away at the Emirates Stadium. That is the team I have supported when I was young and I was mascot when Tony Adams was captain when I was ten, so that would be a dream come true."

Since being relegated from the Football League last season the Devon club are enjoying a something of a rebirth.

They are second in the Conference and looking to bounce straight back up to the league at the first attempt and are enjoying higher crowds than in the past few seasons.

"The confidence around the club is really high and that is one of the reasons I joined the club in the summer," he added.

"We are at the top of the league and the fans are coming in through the gates so it is an exciting time for Torquay."

The Gulls thrashed local rivals Yeovil 4-1 in the first round with Todd scoring twice and the defender is confident they can go on and do the same against Dean Wilkins' men.

"Obviously it is going to be a tough game for us," he added. "But we are going well and we are at the top of the league so hopefully we recreate that form in The Cup and knock Brighton out."

It could be a double celebration for the Todd family with boxer brother James fighting for Wales the night before.

"He had a fight last week and won which I went to, and he has another one this Friday, so hopefully it will be celebrations all round on Saturday night."
