Third Round draw details

Chasetown manager Charlie Blakemore admits he has hardly slept since seeing his players claim a memorable 1-1 draw in their FA Cup Second Round tie at Port Vale.

The Walsall-based side, who sit five divisions below Vale in the football pyramid, head into their replay against the League One side tonight with a home tie against Cardiff City being the reward for the victors.

And Blakemore, whose team includes a fork lift truck operator, a graphic designer and a telephone engineer, admits the club's new-found fame in the media spotlight has caused him sleepless nights.

"It's been an immense period for me," admits Blakemore.

"I've never had to deal with anything like this before. It's been very tiring but I wouldn't swap it for anything in the world.

"We've been in the media spotlight and it's a fantastic experience. The players have been leading the lives of professional football players for the past few weeks and it's added a real buzz around the place.

"I haven't slept a wink, especially with all the attention we've been getting. I am always thinking about the game and always trying to work out tactics.

"But I love being in this frame of mind, it gives me an extra edge and I hope it does the job."

With all the media hype surrounding the club, Blakemore is anxious that his players retain their focus ahead of the game with Vale, but admits The FA Cup has already sprinkled its legendary magic over a town with a population of just over 4,000.

"The FA Cup has been phenomenal for the town and the club," said Blakemore.

"Only two years ago we had 70 or 80 spectators, but for our last league game we had 781 and we're getting all this publicity.

"We've not got a rich benefactor, but if you put the right sort of ingredients together then you can achieve and The FA Cup gives teams like us that opportunity.

"We'll have 2,000 fans behind us against Vale and hopefully we can do ourselves justice.

"We've already played nine games in The FA Cup and we know it's going to be even harder this time, because Port Vale will be a lot more prepared and our element of surprise has gone.

"But it's all about what we do. We've got a one in a thousand chance of beating them so we've just got to make sure we give everything on the day and make sure we have no regrets."
