Third Round draw details

Horsham’s FA Cup adventure was ended in emphatic style by a rampant Swansea side, but only after they were given an almighty scare by the Ryman League side.

After seeing a strong penalty claim turned down within the opening 10 seconds of the game, Lee Farrell gave the part-timers a deserved lead after 20 minutes when he capitalised on a woeful offside trap and kept his cool to gently lob Dorus de Vries from the edge of the penalty area.

Horsham held the lead for just one minute and 25 seconds though, as Darren Pratley was allowed to stroll unchallenged into the penalty area before planting his shot well beyond the reach of Paul Seuke.

However, within moments John Maggs’ troops were back in the lead as deaf international Farrell accepted an early Christmas present from De Vries, whose attempted pass fell straight to the alert forward who again showed a remarkable calmness in front of goal to net his second of the game and cap an impressive all-round performance.

The League One leaders refused to panic though and a late first-half rally saw them turn the game on its head and establish a two-goal lead before the break.

Jason Scotland finished comprehensively from close range seven minutes before the break and four minutes later diminutive midfielder Leon Britton kept his balance well and fired beyond Seuke to give the Welsh side the lead for the first time in the match.

Salt was rubbed into the wounds less than 60 seconds later when Ferrie Bodde’s run from deep went unchecked and he was able to apply a powerful headed finish to Britton’s precise centre.

Horsham battled bravely after the break but were unable to gain a foothold in the game and never threatened to mount a comeback of their own.

But for Seuke and some errant finishing, the margin of victory would have been greater.

As it was, Roberto Martinez’s men had to settle for two further goals in the second half.

The first came in the 56th minute when Andy Robinson tapped home from eight yards after a sweeping move and substitute Warren Feeney added an extra gloss to the scoreline with a stinging shot from distance which crept beyond Seuke at his near post.

John Maggs and his players can be proud of their performance though and will travel back to Sussex with their heads held high.
