Whyteleafe are aiming to turn up the heat on Peacehaven & Telscombe on Wednesday night and avoid becoming the victims of one of the early shocks in The FA Cup.

Neither team could break the deadlock on Saturday in one of only five goalless draws from the weekend's Preliminary Round fixtures as Sussex County Division Two outfit Peacehaven belied their position two leagues below their opponents to produce a creditable draw.

Both sides struggled to create any clear cut chances in the late summer sunshine and when Whyteleafe did manage to find the back of the net late on, Chris Lapierre's close-range effort was ruled out for offside.

The scorching weather evidently played a major part in events as Whyteleafe club secretary Edward Lucas admits: "The lads were clearly impacted by the heat and as a result the game started very slowly.

"Peacehaven played extremely well, perhaps even above their level as they clearly rose to the occasion. As the game went on, however, we began to get on top and we are looking forward to Wednesday night."

The winners of Wednesday's replay face a trip to Horsham YMCA in the First Round Qualifying and Lucas is optimistic for Whyteleafe's chances should they progress: "We beat them in the league last year so we have every reason to be confident if we can beat Peacehaven."
