Aveley put on a five star performance to dump Hanwell Town out of The FA Cup with a 5-0 away win at the Preliminary Round stage on Saturday.

After a hard-fought opening 20 minutes, the Essex side took the lead through Petrit Elbi and had the game virtually won by half-time thanks to further strikes by Jaoa Carlos and Ben Bradbury.

Aveley, who are unbeaten so far this season in the Isthmian League Division One North, continued to dominate after the break and sealed the victory thanks to further goals from Garry Skerritt and Wayne Vaughan.

Aveley secretary Craig Johnson was naturally delighted with the result, but knows the team must put in another good performance in the next round when they face another away tie against Harlow Town.

"Even though Hanwell are a level below us in the pyramid, they have started the season very well and this was a banana skin for us," he explained.

"They gave as good as they got, but as soon as we scored the first goal I felt we were always going to win.

"However, we'll be the underdogs in the next round when we play Harlow who are now in the league above us.

"We used to play against them regularly so it will be nice to renew rivalries and we can go there without too much expectation."

The Preliminary Round of The FA Cup continues on Sunday, with the winners from each of the 166 ties claiming £1,500 from The FA's Prize Fund.
