After his heroic performance between the posts at Anfield, Barnsley's emergency loan keeper Luke Steele has been voted 'Player of the Round'.

More than two thirds of the fans voting on TheFA.com went for Steele, with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Wayne Rooney and David James losing out on the prize.

Mark Clemmit of Radio Five Live and Howard Wheatcroft of the Daily Star both nominated the Barnsley goalkeeper Luke Steele, whose heroic efforts between the posts earned one of the shocks of recent years.

A former Manchester United 'keeper who lifted The FA Youth Cup at Old Trafford in 2003, Steele will be looking to perform similar heroics when Barnsley take on Chelsea in their Sixth Round tie at Oakwell.

Regardless of the outcome of that match, Steele is now guaranteed a place at Wembley on 17 May for The FA Cup Final. He will also receive training equipment to donate to a local school of his choice.

The FA Cup Player of the Round award, sponsored by E.ON, is presented to the outstanding player at each stage of competition, starting from the First Qualifying Round all the way to the Semi-Final.

Player of the Round winners will receive VIP hospitality for themselves and their guest at The FA Cup Final on Saturday 17 May 2008.

The winner of each award will be presented with a trophy along with a kit bag of training equipment which he can donate to a local school of his choice. Voting closed at 9am on Wednesday 27 February 2008.
