Striker Simeon Jackson netted a brace as Conference side Rushden & Diamonds caused the day’s biggest cup shock by beating League Two side Macclesfield 3-1 in the First Round of The FA Cup.

Jackson opened the scoring for the home side after only seven minutes, and Jon Challinor doubled Rushden's lead just before the interval. Canadian U20 star Jackson hit his side's third on the hour mark, while Martin Gritton headed a consolation goal for Macclesfield with five minutes to go.

Assistant manager Kevin Hayes was delighted with his team's performance, he said: "It was a very good day. We played very well it's obviously nicer that it was against one of the league clubs.

"We've been playing really well in the last couple of games and we're high on confidence at the moment."

Hayes also reserved special praise for Jackson adding: "Simoen is in great form at the moment. He's a young lad and he's still learning but hopefully he can keep on progressing well and take us to greater things in the future."

Macclesfield were the only Football League side to suffer a non-league giant-killing on FA Cup first round day.

Non-league Barrow AFC and Staines Town kept their cup dreams alive after earning replays against league opposition.

Kevin Rapley, a driving instructor by trade, scored after 19 minutes, keeping the home fans dreaming as Barrow. But the Conference North side could only hold on until first-half stoppage time when Bournemouth’s on-loan striker Jem Karacan equalised with a precise finish.

A battling performance from Staines earned a 1-1 draw against a Stockport side three leagues above them.

The away side came from behind with Marc Charles-Smith cancelling out Matty McNeill’s early second half goal.

Elsewhere, goals in either side of half time from Crewe's Chris McCready and Neil Cox were good enough for a 2-1 win over MK Dons,

Inspired substitutions helped Swindon beat Wycombe 2-1 - Christian Roberts and Billy Paynter came off the bench to score.

New Millwall manager Kenny Jackett got off to a winning start as goals from Alan Dunne and Will Hoskins accounted for 10-man Altrincham in their 2-1.
