Salisbury City squandered a place in the First Round of The FA Cup following a home draw with manager-less Stevenage Borough at Partidge Way. A late penalty miss by Matt Tubbs means the Wiltshire side must negotiate a tricky replay at Broadhall Way on Tuesday night.
Having survived a late scare Stevenage Chief Executive Bob Makin believes his side were good value for a battling draw away from home.
“The first half ended even,” he said. “In the second we took over the game but the four or five good chances we had were wasted.”
With home support for Tuesday’s replay Makin remains confident the Conference team can progress.
“I am confident we can continue the good things we have started here today,” he said. “It is a different surface, a different game and we will have our fans behind us.”
Salisbury dominated the play in the first half but the clear-cut chances fell to the visitors, who wasted a number of gilt-edged chances.
Stevenage began to exert more pressure in the second period and should have made the game safe before Tubbs penalty miss.
Elsewhere in The FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round, York City hit six second-half goals to stun Rushall Olympic and set up a First Round meeting with Havant & Waterlooville.
Chippenham Town fought valiantly having gone three goals behind to Horsham, but two late goals proved to be in vain for the home side.
Billericay Town brushed past Folkestone Invicta with goals either side of half-time from striker Joe Flack.
