Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson will be looking to maintain his fantastic FA Cup Semi-Final record at Villa Park on Saturday.

The Old Trafford boss is undefeated in his seven previous appearances in the last four of the FA Cup - four of which have been at Aston Villa's ground.

His chances of making it a great eight have been boosted by the return of Paul Scholes from suspension. And Ferguson believes the former England man will be essential to his side if they are to make it to the first Cup Final at the new Wembley.

"Paul Scholes is back from suspension and his experience could be important in a semi-final," said Ferguson.

At the back, Ferguson faces a number of selection problems, with John O’Shea facing a late fitness test on a calf injury he picked up in the 7-1 mauling of Roma in the Champions League in midweek.

The Republic of Ireland defender was replaced early in the second half on Tuesday night and, having not trained since the match, remains a serious doubt for the trip to Birmingham.

England full-back Gary Neville is also unlikely to be risked and will spend another week on the sidelines.

But Ferguson has an able replacement in Frenchman Patrice Evra, who wrapped up United's memorable win over the Italians with their seventh goal, and his first ever in the Champions League.

"John didn't train on Friday," added Ferguson. "Patrice Evra came in at right-back on Tuesday and did very well."
