Despite winning The FA Cup twice with Tottenham Hotspur, first as a player in 1967 then as manager in '91, England's Assistant Coach Terry Venables has revealed that two of his most cherished FA Cup memories came while at lower league clubs.

Following the Sixth Round draw at Soho Square where he, along with Steve McClaren, helped fashion a repeat of that 1967 FA Cup Final in drawing Chelsea at home to Tottenham Hotspur, Venables spoke of the enjoyment he took from being part of success against the odds with Crystal Palace and Queen's Park Rangers.

Venables told TheFA.com: "When I look back on my FA Cup experiences obviously the two medals I have for Spurs spring instantly to mind, but Crystal Palace in 1976 was also an incredible achievement.

"I was a coach there at the time with Malcolm Allison and we took Palace, who were a Third Division club, all the way to the Semi-Final.

"Another interesting one for me was taking QPR to the Cup Final in 1982 as a Second Division team, and it took a replay for Spurs to win the Cup that year. They were a very good side that year Spurs, and we were unlucky not to win it.

"That's what the competition is all about, smaller teams making a name for themselves and causing a shock. That's what makes it so special.

"But it's always been exciting for me, to have won it for Spurs against Chelsea in the first all-London Cup Final, and then to win again with Spurs as manager in 1991 over Forest after extra time - it's a very special competition that is clearly very dear to a lot of people, and I'm no different."
