Richard Walker scored the first goal of the Third Round with a first half penalty and it was enough to see his Bristol Rovers side safely through at home to Hereford and into the hat for the draw on Monday afternoon at Soho Square.
Referee Scott Mathieson pointed to the spot after a poor challenge from Hereford keeper Wayne Brown on Craig Disley and Walker was on hand to convert the spot kick.
The plucky visitors almost earned a draw when Rob Purdie had a great chance in stoppage time, but fired wide from just inside the box.
In Friday's other match Stoke City saw off Millwall with two late goals at the Britannia Stadium.
The home side had the better of the chances and their pressure finally paid off when the Marvin Elliott put David Brammer’s cross into his own net with just eight minutes to go.
I hadn’t looked like being Stoke’s night after both John Eustace and former Gillingham man Mamady Sidibe wasted good opportunities either side of half time and the tie seemed to be heading for a replay before the unfortunate Elliott’s error.
Five minutes later Danny Fuller ended any hopes of a fight back from the London side when skipped past a couple of tackles before scoring with a cool finish.
England Women’s manager Hope Powell and Arsenal Ladies star Faye White will be drawing the teams for the next round at 1.30pm on Monday.
