Bristol City came from two goals down to earn themselves a replay against Middlesbrough with a gutsy 2-2 draw in today’s FA Cup sponsored by E.ON Fourth Round.
The League One side went into half-time two goals down after goals from Aiyegbeni Yakubu and Malcolm Christie seemed to have secured the tie for Middlesbrough.
But Richard Keogh gave City hope with a 53rd-minute header and then Scott Murray ensured a trip to the Riverside with a superb lob after 59 minutes. On a day of few upsets, City’s Jamie McAllister almost won the game when his shot fizzed past the post in the dying stages, but the Premiership side held on.
In the day’s early kick-off, two goals from Matt Derbyshire helped Blackburn to a 4-0 win over Luton Town at Kenilworth Road.
Derbyshire, 20, celebrated signing a new contract during the week by scoring in both halves, with Benni McCarthy and Morten Gamst Pedersen completing the rout for Rovers.
Watford won their second game in a week against West Ham United, an Anthony McNamee overhead kick sealing their first win at Upton Park since 1984 – and capping a wretched season for the East London side.
Reading overcame Birmingham City 3-2 at St Andrew’s, with Dave Kitson scoring his first goal since the opening day of the season.
Kitson, who has struggled with injuries all season, scored after three minutes, and two goals from Leroy Lita ensured that Birmingham would not repeat their impressive win against Newcastle United in the Third Round.
Fulham continued their run of good form with a 3-0 win against Stoke City at Craven Cottage, with Vincenzo Montella scoring his fourth goal in three games.
Montella poached the opener before goals from Brian McBride and Tomasz Radzinski provided Fulham with their tenth game unbeaten.
Tottenham Hotspur were too good for Southend United, running out 3-1 winners at White Hart Lane.
Southend pushed Spurs to extra time when the two sides met in the Carling Cup quarter-finals this season, but they were brushed aside by goals from Robbie Keane, Jermaine Jenas and Mido.
Elsewhere, Blackpool earned a 1-1 home draw against Norwich City after an Ian Evatt header cancelled out Darren Huckerby’s opener, while second-half goals from David Nugent and Kelvin Wilson saw Preston North End through with a 2-0 win at Crystal Palace.
Paul Peschisolido also scored a late goal for Derby County to secure a 1-0 win against a Bristol Rovers side who had seen Aaron Lescott sent off with 20 minutes to go.
