Olympic Gold medalist Darren Campbell has admitted that there is no better feeling in sport than playing in The FA Cup.

Despite competing at the highest level in athletics, and winning gold in Athens as part of the 4x100m men's relay, Campbell insists that playing in The FA Cup is among his most treasured memories.

"When I was at Weymouth I managed to play in a derby in The FA Cup which was a very special memory for me," Campbell told TheFA.com.

"A Dorchester fan came up to me recently, he'd been at the game and he said he remembered me taking off down the wing and saying to himself 'Oh my god, he is lightning'.

"Obviously after that spell in football I achieved a great deal in athletics, but it's nice to know that people hold The FA Cup dear, and it was a great honour to draw the numbers this time."

A staunch Manchester United supporter, Campbell was pleased that he was able to give his team the luxury of a home draw.

"I'm a United fan and I was glad to be pulling out the home teams for that very reason," he explained.

"People often say that football is more than a sport, it's a religion. I think The FA Cup especially, because it's the biggest Cup competition, is very important to a lot of people.

"It's the one true competition where the minnows have the chance play on the biggest stage."

The memories are still strong for Campbell who still remembers the feeling around Weymouth when he was involved in The FA Cup.

"To have that opportunity to play at one of the famous grounds against the top players, for everyone involved it is very special.

"Having shared in that dream, you realise just how much it means, not only to the players but the fans in particular.

"I was playing semi-pro in a local derby and there wasn't a spare seat in the house.

"It shows the passion, I've competed at the Olympic games in front 120,000 people so I'd like to think I know about passion, expectation and pressure - and The FA Cup has all of that.

"That's why people continue to follow the competition, it's a dream that never dies for so many people."
