League Two Barnet put on a great second-half display to knock-out Championship high-flyers Colchester and go into the FA Cup Fourth Round.

Jamie Cureton had put the visitors ahead in the first half with his 14th goal of the season, but Paul Fairclough’s side produced a stirring fight-back after the break.

Geraint Williams’ side sit in the top six of English football’s second tier and had the better of the first-half.

Cureton had the game’s first chance when he linked up with the equally prolific Chris Iwelumo and had a firm shot saved by Lee Harrison.

The experienced striker was the star of the show, and his 34th minute opener was typical of what he has been doing for most of the season.

He pounced on a Nicky Nicolau slip to slam home a clinical finish into the bottom corner.

He nearly turned provider moments later when a cross-field ball released Richard Garcia, who fired over. Kem Izzet also had a chance before the break.

However, after Colchester substitute Johnnie Jackson had a goal disallowed for offside on 58 minutes, Barnet came to life and were soon level through Yakubu.

He surged forward from the back to beat Colchester goalkeeper Dean Gerken with a deflected shot.

Although Colchester caused a scare when Kevin McLeod hit a post with a header on 12 minutes, Barnet continued to press.

And they were duly rewarded when Jason Puncheon struck home the winner from the edge of the box ten minutes from time, sparking wild celebrations at Underhill.
