Ahead of Saturday's FA Cup Final we reveal the lineup of The FA Cup 'Team of Heroes' as voted for by you the fans. The competition began to commemorate the incredible contribution of the players in 125 years - and after more than 10,000 votes we have our team.

And turning the clock back to the more than 50 years, the legendary Stanley Matthews has been selected for the dream team, although with 22 minutes to go in the 1953 FA Cup Final between Blackpool and Bolton it looked as if he would continue to be the greatest player never to win the famous trophy.

After two previous disappointments in The Final - in 1948 against Manchester United and 1951 against Newcastle - Matthews and the rest of his Blackpool team-mates seemed doomed again as they trailed 3-1.

Matthews was 38-years-old and a star of the game, with Tom Finney - who operated on the opposite wing for England - saying: "He was the finest ball player I have ever seen."

However, it needed an amazing fightback that day at Wembley, but that is exactly what happened as Matthews turned on the style and helped his team secure an amazing 4-3 victory with the winning goal from Bill Perry coming in the very last minute.

Stan Mortensen finished the match with a hat-trick, but the game was immediately dubbed the 'Matthews Final' although the man himself selflessly said: "It was a myth that I won the game on my own. It was a great team effort."

Matthews had made his first appearance in an FA Cup Final back in 1948, but Blackpool suffered a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Manchester United.

Three years later he was back again, only for Jackie Milburn to ruin his Cup dreams once again with both goals for Newcastle United to take the trophy back to the north east.

As well as his ultimate FA Cup glory, Matthews played 54 times for England between the ages of 19 and 41. He was twice Footballer of the Year and was also voted Europe's top player in 1956.

The wonderful FA Cup story almost had a sour end for Matthews however. Some years after the 1953 triumph he discovered his winners medal had gone missing at some point during his travels abroad.

But when The Football Association were made aware of the situation they commissioned an exact replica to be produced and presented it to the Wing Wizard.
