Teddy Sheringham ended up on the losing side as he became the third oldest player to star in The FA Cup Final.
The striker came on as a second half substitute to put his name in the history books behind Aston Villa's Billy Hampson and Charlton's John Oakes.
The former England international converted his spot-kick but could not stop Liverpool from winning the trophy.
He said: "It is unbelievable. We thought we had won it until a few minutes before full-time.
"We can be proud of what we done but we come away with nothing, which is devastating for the effort we put in, but Liverpool were fantastic and they showed their class in the end."
