John Terry put Chelsea into the Semi-Finals of The FA Cup and ended Alan Shearer’s dream of ending his Newcastle career with a trophy.

England star Terry fired home after only four minutes at Stamford Bridge to give Chelsea a 1-0 victory and keep alive their hopes of winning a Premiership and FA Cup ‘Double’.

It was a fine response from the Blues, who had suffered a shock 1-0 defeat at Fulham in the league on Sunday, and even though they didn’t hit top form they always looked likely winners.

Newcastle, who had Robbie Elliott sent off late on, fought to the end and made a real battle of it. But Shearer never had a chance to add to his 202 goals for the Geordies and give them a chance of winning a trophy for the first time in his 10 years at the club.

His best hope came when Lee Bowyer’s first half shot was saved by Carlo Cudicini and Shearer looked certain to fire home the rebound. But that man Terry came from nowhere to thump the ball away, right off the Newcastle man’s toe.

Earlier, Terry had given Chelsea the perfect start when a Damien Duff corner was hit low to him in only the fourth minute of the match. Terry reacted quickly to drill a shot through Shay Given’s legs and into the net for 1-0.

Newcastle came back strongly through Bowyer and were never out of the match as Chelsea struggled to find their rhythm.

The visitors had plenty of possession without making it pay, while Chelsea were denied a second goal when Given produced a stunning double save from Didier Drogba after the break.

The final minutes were nervy as Newcastle desperately tried to find an equaliser, but their hopes were eventually ended when Elliott was sent off in the final minute for a block on Shaun Wright-Phillips, his second booking of the night.
