Despite playing in many fierce encounters between United and Arsenal, this strike remains Becks' only goal against the Gunners. |
David Beckham failed to out to gun Arsenal at Highbury on Wednesday night in the Champions League, but we take a look back at one of the England skippers' brightest moments against the North London side.
The midfielder has only scored once against The Gunners, but what an incredible goal it was in a stupendous FA Cup classic - a fitting game for the last ever Semi-Final replay.
Let us take you back almost seven years to 14 April, 1999.
Manchester United, who were chasing a historic treble, found Arsenal a difficult obstacle at Villa Park that dramatic night, but were given a wonderful start by their number seven.
After linking well with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Beckham sent a magnificent curling shot from 30 yards past David Seaman's desperate dive.
The Real fans were hoping the England captain could reproduce such a moment at Highbury.
Beckham's sublime strike was cancelled out by Dennis Bergkamp's deflected shot, but the drama did not end there.
Roy Keane was sent off, Peter Schmeichel brilliantly saved Bergkamp's penalty leaving Ryan Giggs to steal the show with a mesmerising run and shot into the roof of the net - it was arguably the greatest goal in FA Cup history.
We would not want to deprive you of Giggs' goal from that wonderful night at Villa Park. Click here to watch the highlights.
