Bolton’s Ricardo Gardner went back to school to receive his FA Cup Player of the Round silver salver from Ruth Kelly, the Secretary of State for Education and Skills and MP for Bolton West on Friday.

The Jamaican midfielder joined pupils at Claypool Primary School, Horwich, as they received an award from Ruth Kelly for excellence in performing and creative arts, the day before he helped The Trotters keep another clean sheet in their FA Cup tie against West Ham.

After making the Player of the Round presentation, The Minister said: " I am a big fan of Bolton Wanderers and Ricardo, so it was great to be able to present him with his award."

And Head teacher Glenys Evans was delighted to host two VIP visitors, commenting: "It was fantastic to have Ruth and Ricardo here to share in the celebrations."

Ricardo has invited people in Bolton to contact the club to nominate any worthy causes to which he can donate £1000 worth of UMBRO kit, part of his Player of the Round award.
