Hear from the Burton camp ahead of their dream match with 2005 finalists and record winners of The FA Cup Manchester United. |
With all eyes on the biggest possible shock of the Third Round, we preview the action and hear from the Burton Albion players gearing up for the match of their lives.
Burton Albion winger Keith Gilroy admits it is a "dream come true" to be playing Manchester United - the team he has supported since he was a boy.
The Brewers earned themselves an FA.Cup Third Round tie with United after beating Burscough 4-1 in the previous round when Gilroy scored a brace.
He is now relishing the opportunity of facing England internationals Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand and Gary Neville.
He said: "It’s what dreams are made of. For a club like Burton to get through to the Third Round meant we would make some money, but as soon as we heard it was Man United we couldn’t help but get excited.
"When the draw was made there was so much pressure on the Burscough game. It was lovely to get two goals but the important thing was to set up this lucrative tie against Man United.
Sir Alex Ferguson expects both Paul Scholes and Alan Smith to be fit for Sunday’s FA Cup tie at Burton Albion.
Former England midfielder Scholes took a blow to the head in United’s 2-2 draw with Birmingham last week while Smith, who has 16 caps for his country, has been suffering from a virus.
“Paul got a knock on the head during the Birmingham game and suffered blurred vision,” Sir Alex told the official Manchester United website.
“But we are hoping he’ll be okay for Sunday.
“Alan’s had a heavy chest infection but hopefully he’ll be fit for the Burton game as well.”
United’s trip to Conference side Burton, which kicks off at 4pm, is the most intriguing tie of this week’s Third Round.
Last year Sir Alex was embarrassed by Conference side Exeter, who eked out a draw at the Theatre of Dreams to leave the competition’s most successful club a little red-faced.
