Over the years we have enjoyed some memorable performances from players throughout all levels of the game in what is truly the greatest domestic cup competition in the world.

In the lead up to this season’s landmark final, we will be unveiling the chosen eleven players along with a manager and an overall FA Cup legend, who will be crowned the number one FA Cup hero of all time.

But with so many individuals having made an impact on The FA Cup in its long history, how will we narrow it down?

Well, the search has already begun...

We have teamed up the 92 clubs from the Premier League and Football League along with the top 33 clubs in the history of The FA Cup from outside the top four divisions, based on number of wins in all rounds, making a total of 125 teams all together.

Leading up to this season's FA Cup Fourth Round, on the weekend of 28 January, these clubs are on the hunt to find their very own top five FA Cup Heroes who they will put forward to our specialist panel.

We need to cover all positions on the field, so are looking for nominations for each of the following; goalkeeper, defender, midfielder, forward and a manager.

A total of 625 names will then go to our FA Cup experts, led by Sir Trevor Brooking, who will whittle this down to a final shortlist of 125 – 25 from each position and 25 managers.

With the shortlist decided, TheFA.com will begin the search for the final all-time team by asking visitors to the website to select their own FA Cup Team of Heroes.

The ultimate team will be announced in the build up to May’s Cup Final.

Fans who take part in TheFA.com’s poll will also be given the opportunity to win two tickets to the big match on 13 May and will also be invited along to help unveil a special plaque at the new Wembley Stadium commemorating this special team.

So look out on your club's website to get involved in their nominations, then head back to us when you can pick your final team starting in early March...
