The FA Cup Second Round Proper Replay
Tuesday 13 December 2005
Northwich Victoria 2-1 Woking
Oxford United 1-2 Cheltenham Town
Northampton Town 2-0 Stevenage Borough
Bristol Rovers 0-1 Port Vale
Brentford 1-0 Oldham Athletic
Bradford City 3-5 Barnsley
Brentford booked their place against Stockport in the next round after beating Oldham 1-0 when Lloyd Owusu scored late on after Oldham were reduced to ten men when substitute Gareth Owen was cautioned twice in four minutes.
Brentford boss Martin Allen said the competition was vital for the financial support it gives to clubs, but said he was more interested in getting results.
He said: "Financially it is very beneficial to get through and have a good cup run. The fact that the game was televised also means that there is more money in the bank.
"But that's not my motivation. My motivation is the performance and winning games. I am certainly not going to count how much we made."
Conference North side Northwich Victoria beat Woking 3-1 to earn themselves a potential giant -killing clash against Premiership strugglers Sunderland in the FA Cup third round in January.
The next round is of special importance to their Newcastle-born striker Paul Brayson, who said he would love to score past the Premiership giants.
Stuart Elliott put Northwich in front with a 20-yard volley before Shwan Jalal saved Brayson's penalty.
Woking equalised through Steve Ferguson before Brayson scored from distance on the hour mark.
Brayson is having an amazing run in the competition, scoring eleven goals - including the winner against Woking - and has twice won Player of the Round.
"This season everything is going well in the FA Cup. I had to make up for the penalty I missed and was delighted to score," said the former Newcastle youth player.
"These sort of opportunities only come around once a life time for a Conference North club. It is massive for the club financially and will increase its publicity.
"We now just want to go to the Stadium of Light and enjoy the occasion because we have nothing to loose."
Elsewhere, Barnsley needed extra time to beat Bradford 5-3. The Yorkshire side come from behind twice before Martin Devaney struck twice in extra time to set up a third round tie with Walsall.
Port Vale overcame Bristol Rovers thanks to Trinidad and Tobago's World Cup-bound midfielder Chris Birchall's strike.
Northampton beat Conference side Stevenage 2-0 to book a place against Crystal Palace with the in-form Scott McGleish scoring twice before half time.
Brian Wilson scored a late free kick for Cheltenham in their 2-1 win over Oxford. Cheltenham now face Chester City in the FA Cup third round.
