Aldershot boss Terry Brown was a relieved man as his team avoided a potential banana skin to beat Burnham 3-1.
Defenders John Brough and Greg Heald proved their ability at the other end by both putting their name on the scoresheet with Ahmed Deen adding the third for the Shots.
Matty Miller did fire in a consolation for Burnham, but Brown was delighted to see his side go through.
"At half time, I couldn’t see where the goals were coming from. But I’m really relieved with the result, because Burnham were fantastic today," he said.
"I was under bucket loads of pressure for this tie, it’s The FA Cup, we need a good run, but thankfully the players gave me that little bit extra."
One of the biggest shocks of the First Round came at Bournemouth where Conference side Tamworth claimed a famous 2-1 victory over the League One Cherries.
Kyle Storer was the hero as he followed up his own saved penalty to net a late winner. Tamworth had taken the lead through Graham Ward before Brian Stack temporarily brought Bournemouth level.
Former European Cup winners Nottingham Forest were held at home to a 1-1 draw by Weymouth of the Conference South.
Gary Holt put Forest ahead, but the visitors from Dorset earned a replay when Andy Harris powered in a header from Shaun Wilkinson's corner.
Another brave underdog performance saw Eastbourne Borough earn a superb draw at home to League Two outfit Oxford as Ollie Rowland showed nerves of steel.
The Borough man was forced to re-take a last minute penalty, but remained calm to cancel out Steve Basham's goal and earn his side a replay at the Kassam Stadium.
Burton Albion were another non-league side to hold higher level opposition as they held Peterborough 0-0 at London Road.
Harrogate also go into the Second Round draw, although they may be slightly disappointed not to have beaten Torquay at the first attempt.
They made the longest journey of the day from Yorkshire to Devon and looked set for victory through Danny Holland's goal until Ian Stonebridge equalised with just ten minutes left.
Little Leamington will have mixed feelings about their first appearance in the FA Cup First Round as they lost 9-1 away to Colchester United.
Having kept things relatively tight in the the first half, things started to go wrong after the interval for Leamington and they ended up on the end of the Essex side's biggest victory since 1961.
