Midland Alliance club Chasetown defied the laws of the football pyramid to hold Oldham Athletic of League One to a 1-1 draw.
Chasetown, six divisions and 133 places below their illustrious visitors and the lowest ranked club left in the world's oldest club competition, took the lead against the three-time semi-finalists and fully deserved earning a trip to Boundary Park.
Charlie Blakemore’s giantkillers had already won five rounds, scoring 19 goals, and set up their showdown with the Latics when a tense 1-0 Fourth Qualifying Round replay success over cup battlers Blyth Spartans extended their unbeaten run to 19 games.
An expectant crowd of 1,997 packed in to their Church Street ground and hopes were high after an opening period which saw the home side more than hold their own against Ronnie Moore's side.
Then on 23 minutes, Nick Harrison hit a 30-yard volley which struck the foot of Chris Day's right-hand post, came back and deflected of the goalkeeper's trailing foot to bounce in to the goal.
Eight minutes later Moore's side were level when the Chasetown defence were caught by a well worked free kick.
David Ayers knocked the ball to Andy Liddell who gave it straight back to the 41-year-old midfielder, who hit a low hard shot beyond the reach of Martin Taylor.
Despite Oldham laying siege to the Chasetown goal in the final minutes of the match, the home side clung on to earn the greatest result in the club's history.
