The Unibond League outfit - 76 places below the League One visitors from Kent in the football pyramid - scored twice in the final minute to snatch an amazing 3-2 win.

In a game packed with incidents ten-man Gillingham looked to be heading through until the late turnaround that culminated with sub Dave Rowan scoring with the last kick of the match.

And Goulding admitted the win had set Burscough up for the next couple of seasons thanks to the cash windfall of reaching the Second Round.

"It’s a fantastic day and a fantastic result for us. It was a classic Cup tie and typical of The FA Cup - it’s what dreams are made of," he said.

"The boys did extremely well in the first half and we deserved to be 1-0 up. Gillingham showed their quality in the second half but we kept our shape and kept our discipline and got ourselves back in the game.

"It was amazing to pinch it at the end, though. With Gillingham down to ten men we told the boys to keep pressing forward in the final minutes.

"The finances and revenue from getting to the Second Round is massive for a club like us. It will support us through this season and seasons after this as well.”

Burscough made a dream start as they took the lead inside ten minutes, with Karl Bell ramming in a loose ball after Gills goalkeeper Tony Bullock failed to deal with a cross into the danger area.

Matt Jarvis brought the visitors level ten minutes after the break, but Burscough were handed an advantage when Gillingham midfielder Michael Flynn was sent off just past the hour mark.

Neale Cooper's side appeared to have dealt with the blow, though, and went ahead through Mark Saunders.

However Burscough, cheered on by their passionate home support, refused to let their heads drop and claimed the win with two last-gasp goals.

The equaliser was not pretty as Gillingham made a complete hash of dealing with a home attack, resulting in the the ball appearing to ricochet into the goal off Gills defender Ian Cox as Bullock tried to lash clear.

That was dramatic enough, but there was more to come as Dave Rowan came on as a sub in injury time and was in the right place to turn and fire in the winner to dump the Gills out.

Gillingham chairman Paul Scally was far from happy as he raged: "All credit to Burscough because on that display they deserve to be in our division, but some of that defending was amateurish.

"I am absolutely devastated and I just want to apologise to our fans who came all the way up here."
