Winning clubs receive £10,000
Folkestone Invicta manager Neil Cugley was ecstatic after his side were drawn to play Chester City in The FA Cup First Round proper following their 2-0 victory over Aylesbury United on Saturday.
Cugley said: “We are delighted to get this far, I thought we deserved the victory against Aylesbury and we are all really looking forward to the Chester game.
“None of the squad have faced league opposition before so that makes it really special. We are a non-league club in the truest sense of the word.”
The Ryman Premier Division outfit have netted £21,000 in their FA Cup run so far and Cugley believes the money will be vital: “It is very pleasing and should keep the club afloat for a couple of seasons.”
Folkestone’s squad includes a taxi driver, a barman and a plumber but Cugley insisted that celebrations were kept to a minimum.
“Nowadays the players are far more professional then they were in my day, we didn’t get plastered although we did have a couple of beers.”
After disposing of Aylesbury United, Staines Town, St. Margaretsbury and Egham Town, Cugley admits his club face a much sterner test in the form of Chester City who are currently lying fifth in League Two.
“They are favourites and are a quite strong team, but we are going to go up there and make a real day of it.”
