Gosport Borough striker Jamie Laidlaw has booked his place at The FA Cup final after winning The FA Cup First Qualifying Round ‘Player of the Round’ award.
Jamie polled 44 per cent of the 7,363 votes cast on TheFA.com, beating Halesowen Town’s Howard Forinton (33%), Hendon’s John Frendo (11%) and Goole’s Steve Davey (12%).
The award caps a great start to the season for Jamie who has hit the back of the net 12 times already in Gosport Borough’s seven match unbeaten run, including 10 in The FA Cup.
And club secretary Brian Cosgrave is backing his in-form striker, signed this season from Winchester City, to continue his great start to the season.
“Jamie deserves his success and will be the first person to thank the many thousands of fans who voted for him. He’s a genuinely nice lad who is in a rich vein of form.
“We’re starting as underdogs in this weekend’s tie against Bath City, but home advantage and Jamie’s success is just the boost we need ahead of what I’m sure will be a great FA Cup match.”
In addition to being crowned FA Cup Player of the Round, which guarantees attendance at The FA Cup final and a half-time introduction to the crowd, Jamie wins £1000 worth of UMBRO football kit for a local school, club or organisation of his choice.
