Ware were unable to continue their winning run in The FA Cup after they were beaten comfortably by Northampton Spencer at Wodson Park on Saturday.
The visitors took an early lead through Darren Frost’s deflected drive, but Joe Stevens converted a penalty for the home side to level the scores shortly before half time.
In the second half, Spencer stepped up a gear and a Ross Harris header restored their advantage. They scored their third goal ten minutes after Scott Coleman lobbed Ware’s goalkeeper Dan Eely.
With two minutes remaining Daryl Hanson gave Ware hope, flicking the ball past Josh Urquhart in the Spencer goal, but the tie was settled in injury time when Coleman was bought down in the box by Eely and Frost converted the penalty.
Northampton Spencer manager, Steve Jelley said afterwards: “This season we have set our stall out to be difficult to beat and to ensure we have a strong defensive unit.
“Our aim at the start of the year was to finish mid-table but we have stormed through our opening games.
“I was pleased with the performance today and look forward to the next round against Aylesbury who are a local side. Regardless of whether we win or lose it will be a great day.”
Defeated Ware manager Glen Alzapiedi was gracious in defeat and said: “The tone of the game was set early.
“Northampton Spencer are a physical side who play a long direct brand of football which we were unable to adapt to.”
