Also the first Premiership player to make this year’s Team of the Cup, Given will be honoured at The FA Cup Final after being named The FA Cup Player of the Round for his performance in the Sixth Round, although he will hoping to be playing in The Final.

Given was in outstanding form, and made two breathtaking saves from Jermain Defoe and Robbie Keane, helping to put Tottenham Hotspur out of the competition after Patrick Kluivert scored the only goal of a pulsating FA Cup tie after just six minutes.

Given’s heroics came as Newcastle look to win The FA Cup for the first time in 50 years, having lifted the trophy three times in five years in the 1950s.

Looking ahead to their massive Semi Final clash against Manchester United, Given is hoping that lady luck continues to smile on Newcastle.

"We didn’t do ourselves justice in previous finals, but hopefully we can go to Cardiff and put that right," he said, having been in the Newcastle squad which lost FA Cup Finals at Wembley in 1998 and 1999.

Given is the tenth player to join the prestigious ‘Team of the FA Cup’ and, if not playing at The Final, will be a VIP guest, as well as receiving a half-time introduction to the crowd.

Given received 35% of the 13,128 fans’ vote on TheFA.com beating four other FA Premier League players shortlisted to win the ‘FA Cup Player of the Round’ award, run in partnership with UMBRO.

An intense week of voting saw Arsenal’s Freddie Ljungberg in the race for the award with Given, but Ljungberg had to settle for second place with 29% of the vote.

Manchester United team mates Paul Scholes and Roy Keane came in third and fourth with 29% and 8% respectively. Last place went to Blackburn’s Dickov who ended on 7%.

Shay has also won £1000 worth of UMBRO football kit and equipment for a local school, club or organisation of his choice. He will also be presented with an engraved silver salver.

The Team of The FA Cup comprises Player of the Round winners from the First Qualifying Round to the Semi Final. The other players already selected for The FA’s Team of The FA Cup are Bishop’s Cleeve FC’s Kevin Slack, AFC Wimbledon’s Rob Ursell, Bath City’s Scott Partridge, Halifax Town’s Craig Midgley, Slough Town’s Alex Haddow, Exeter City’s duo of Dean Moxey and Paul Jones, Yeovil Town’s Kevin Gall and Nottingham Forest’s Kris Commons.

Last year’s team included five non-league players as well as Premiership stars Jose Antonio Reyes, Freddie Ljungberg and Bruno Cheyrou.
