Three defenders and two midfielders feature in the line-up for the prestigious award having shown excellent performances to secure more FA Cup glory for their sides.

The short-listed players include Brentford defender Sam Sodje whose outstanding contribution to the game saw Martin Allen’s side upstage Southampton.

Sodje set up team mate Isaiah Rankin with the first goal and scored the second in Brentford’s fight back from a 2-0 deficit to secure a money-spinning replay.

In another giant killing attempt, Nottingham Forest’s Kris Commons’ display of tremendous wing-play on a strong Tottenham defence forced a string of saves from keeper Paul Robinson and secured a 1-1 draw to be replayed in front of a home crowd.

Also in the frame for an exciting replay is Sheffield United. Goal scorer Andy Gray kept his cool when the Championship side was awarded a 90th minute penalty against Premiership giants Arsenal and slotted the ball away to produce a 1-1 draw.

Two more defenders make up the remaining nominees. Leicester’s Dion Dublin combined an excellent display of defending with his old attacking instincts to score a 90th minute goal and end Charlton’s FA Cup hopes in a 2-1 victory.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United’s Titus Bramble defended like his life depended on it to secure a 1-0 victory over Premiership hot shots Chelsea and push the north east side closer to its first FA Cup victory years.

Now fans are being urged to voice their support for all five players by voting in our online poll on the homepage of TheFA.com - votes must be cast by 9.00am on Monday, 28 February.
