Fulham set up an all Premiership tie against Bolton in the Fifth Round of the FA Cup following the 4-2 win in extra time over plucky Derby.
Extra-time goals from Collins John and Claus Jensen were enough for the the home side in this see-saw game.
And the Championship can count themselves unlucky to be beaten in game they dominated for large periods.
Derby manager George Burley said: "I am proud of the way we played. I think if we had come in at half-time three or four up nobody could have argued with it.
"The manner of our play, some of the quality and our passing and movement was magnificent. We were creating chance after chance. And I'm very pleased with it.
"Over all I thought we showed how much we have improved over the last year and a times completely outplayed a good Premiership team.
"But the players have a bit of belief about themselves after this performance and we have a real chance of getting to the Premiership now."
Gregorz Rasiak gave Derby an early lead with a close-range strike only when he headed home a smart cross from Tommy Smith.
Fulham levelled when Papa Bouba Diop got the home-side level on the stroke of half time when he netted from the spot after Michael Johnson handled the ball.
Shortly after the re-start Luis Boa Morte made it 2-1 for Fulham with a right footed strike as Derby continued to press the home side, with Rasiak continuing to impress and only denied a second by the woodwork.
Their constant pressure told with just four minutes left on the clock when Paul Peschisolido bundled in the equaliser.
Substitute John made his mark in extra-time when he drilled his left-footed shot past Lee Camp.
Fulham wrapped up the game when Claus Jensen broke clear of a tiring defence to score much to the relief of manager Chris Coleman.
He said: "In the first half we were nervous, we didn't play well and didn't deserve to be 1-1. Derby could have been further ahead and Lee Clark was the only outfield player doing it for us.
"Now we've got Bolton. It won't be easy but I'm pleased that it's away from home to be honest because we play better away from home. As I say it won't be easy, but it's winnable."
