Commons stole the show as his Championship side held Premiership hot shots Tottenham to a 1-1 draw at White Hart Lane and his performance certainly caught the public imagination.

He received almost half of the 57,864 fan's votes cast on TheFA.com to pick up his Player of the Round accolade, and the tricky Forest wide-man was understandably delighted, as he told TheFA.com's Matt Hale:

"It’s overwhelming," he said. "Everyone’s told me about the poll and how I’ve been doing - it’s quite remarkable how many votes I've got.

"Thanks very much to the fans. It’s brilliant that they’ve voted for me"

Voted man of the match on the day, his outstanding performance was pivotal in Forest securing this Wednesday’s replay in front of a home crowd where Forest will be hoping for another upset.

"I surprised myself because I don’t think I’ve played that many games this season," said Commons.

"To play that well against internationals such as Ledley King was good for me and I was very pleased after the game.

"The result has definitely given us confidence. We played so well against a team who are doing very well in the Premiership and it’s given us a great boost - we seem to be playing a lot better now since the result.

"The replay should be another good tie. There'll be around 26 or 27 thousand cheering us on, and it's on Sky Sports as well, so it’s going to be a good occasion and we'll be looking for a good result."

Nottingham Forest's Chief Executive Mark Arthur said: "I’m delighted for Kris that he has been named ‘Player of the Round’ - it’s a fitting reward for his performance against Tottenham at White Hart Lane.

"He was quite superb that day and to his great credit, has continued since then in a similar vein in our Championship games against Preston and Derby.

"It’s not only a proud moment for Kris and Nottingham Forest but is also recognition of the talent that exists in this country outside the Premiership."

Commons is the tenth player to join the prestigious ‘Team of the FA Cup’ and will be a VIP guest at The FA Cup Final in May as well as receiving a half-time introduction to the crowd.

An intense week of voting saw Brentford defender Sam Sodje who led the vote for most of the week, slip into second place with 37% of the vote. Newcastle United defender Titus Bramble came in third scooping 8% of the votes cast while the last two places went to Sheffield United’s Andy Gray with 3% and Leicester defender Dion Dublin with 4%.

Kris has won £1000 worth of UMBRO football kit and equipment for a local school, club or organisation of his choice. He will also be presented with an engraved silver salver.

The Team of The FA Cup will comprise Player of the Round winners from the First Qualifying Round to the Semi Final. The other players already selected for The FA’s Team of The FA Cup are Bishop’s Cleeve FC’s Kevin Slack, AFC Wimbledon’s Rob Ursell, Bath City’s Scott Partridge, Halifax Town’s Craig Midgley, Slough Town’s Alex Haddow, Exeter’s duo of Dean Moxey an Paul Jones and Yeovil Town’s Kevin Gall.

Last year’s team included five non-league players as well as Premiership stars Jose Antonio Reyes, Freddie Ljungberg and Bruno Cheyrou.
