Steve Coppell admitted his side were ripe for an FA Cup upset at Swansea's rain-soaked Vetch Field - but was pleased they got through to the Fourth Round.
Coppell, who won the Cup as a player with Manchester United in 1977, watched Reading get held to a goalless draw in 90 minutes before Nicky Forster scored the decisive goal five minutes into extra time.
And he praised his side for not slipping up under the pressure of League Two side Swansea after they were held 1-1 at the Madejski two weeks ago.
He said on Reading's official website: "This was a potential banana skin and I am delighted we got through, even though 120 minutes might cost us on Saturday.
"We had chances before full-time and if we'd scored one of them it would have been even better, but we had to go the full distance."
Blackpool take on Leicester City in their Third Round replay for the chance to face Reading after they came away from the Walkers Stadium with a 2-2 draw.
And manager Colin Hendry hopes the Cup fever will give them confidence for their stuttering League season.
He said: "We thought we could nick something but we have got a replay and we are still in the hat. The thing about a replay is it will give us confidence to go into the league programme."
Steve Cotterill's Burnley take on Liverpool tonight in the Third Round after their original tie was called off because of heavy rain.
But Cotterill insists the pitch is in tip-top condition - and denied it would be a leveller, even after more rain in the past few days.
"The pitches these days aren't quite the state of those in the days of Ronnie Radford at Hereford - even ours is better than that," he told Burnley's official site.
"It all depends if we get the right bounce of the ball, but I don't know if the ball will bounce."
