The race is on for the sixth place in The FA’s ‘Team of The FA Cup’ as fans get the chance to vote for their Player of the Round and win two tickets to a Third Round tie.
Five players have been short-listed for the award, run in partnership with UMBRO, following their headline-grabbing performances in The FA Cup Second Round at the weekend.
Two defenders, two hat-trick heroes and a teenage marksman feature in the line-up for the award having scored eleven goals between them.
The short-listed players include Exeter City’s supersub Dean Moxey, who scored one of the season’s most memorable FA Cup goals in a 2-1 win over Doncaster Rovers and Oldham Athletic’s New Zealand international hero Chris Killen whose hat-trick in a 4-0 win over Leyton Orient earned Oldham a North West derby game against Manchester City.
Also in the frame for a dream tie against Newcastle United is Yeading hotshot DJ Campbell who scored his 22nd and 23rd goals of the season in Yeading’s 3-1 victory over Ryman League rivals Slough Town.
Two defenders make up the remaining nominees. Hat-trick hero Greg Halford steered Colchester United to a 5-2 win over Rushden & Diamonds while Hartlepool United’s Chris Westwood, who is not renowned for his goalscoring prowess, put his name on the scoresheet twice in the Pool’s 5-1 win over Aldershot.
Fans have just seven days to vote for their FA Cup Player of the Round by registering their votes in our online poll on the homepage before 9.00am on Monday 13 December.
Fans who vote on TheFA.com before 4.00pm this Thursday 9 December could also win two tickets to any Third Round FA Cup match. Simply make your choice of player and submit your details to us on the form provided.
The player who secures the most votes will be crowned FA Cup Player of the Round and will win £1000 worth of UMBRO football kit and equipment for a local school, club or organisation of his choice, plus an engraved silver salver.
The successful player will join Bishop’s Cleeve’s Kevin Slack, AFC Wimbledon’s Rob Ursell, Bath City’s Scott Partridge, Halifax Town’s Craig Midgley and Slough Town’s Alex Haddow in The FA’s Team of The FA Cup.
The team will be guaranteed VIP attendance at The FA Cup Final at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday 21 May 2005 and a chance-of-a-lifetime introduction to the crowd at pitchside during half-time.
The Team of The FA Cup will comprise Player of the Round winners from the First Qualifying Round to the Semi-Final. Last year’s team included five non-League players as well as Premiership stars Jose Antonio Reyes, Freddie Ljungberg and Bruno Cheyrou.
