Midgley came on as a half-time substitute for the Shaymen and hit the headlines with a penalty and a last-minute equaliser in the Fourth Round Qualifying 2-2 draw against Leek Town.

Halifax won the replay 1-0 and will now face Cambridge United at home on November 13 in the FA Cup First Round Proper.

Midgley gained 67% of the fans’ vote in the online poll at www.thefa.com. A total of 80,000 votes were cast in the seven-day poll.

Midgley beat four other shortlisted players to win the ‘Player of the Round’ award, run in partnership with UMBRO, after he was nominated by David Watters, news editor of The Non-League Paper.

The win guarantees him more FA Cup glory as a VIP guest at The FA Cup Final next May with a half-time introduction to the crowd in the Millennium Stadium.

On hearing of his victory Craig said, “I’m really pleased to have won this award. We were losing 1-0, so it was great to score a couple of goals after coming on at half- time. I’d also like to thank all the fans that took the time to visit the FA website and vote for me.”

In the race for second place, Leigh RMI FC’s Karl Rose claimed 21 per cent of the vote, beating Tiverton Town’s Kezie Ibe who received 7 per cent. Histon’s Lance Key received 3% and Thurrock FC’s Cliff Akurang received 2%.

Craig has won £1000 worth of UMBRO football kit and equipment for a local school, club or organisation of his choice. He will also be presented with an engraved silver salver.

The "Team of The FA Cup" will comprise Player of the Round winners from the First Qualifying Round right up to the Semi Final. Last year’s team included five non-League players as well as Premiership stars Jose Antonio Reyes, Freddie Ljungberg and Bruno Cheyrou.
