The FA Cup reaches the Second Qualifying Round this weekend.
Famous Five in The Cup

The 124th FA Cup competition reaches its Second Qualifying Round stage this weekend. There are 82 ties on Saturday and two, both in Middlesex, on Sunday.
This season’s entry of 661 clubs is a record, beating the previous mark of 656 set way back in the 1920s. The current competition started at the end of August and after three rounds 378 teams have already bitten the dust.
The weekend’s ties include clubs with great FA Cup pedigrees, clubs who once played in the Football League and clubs who have won The FA Trophy, The FA Vase or the old FA Amateur Cup. The Cup may be at an early stage but there is plenty of quality there.
And there is a classic local derby to look forward to as Dorchester Town clash with Weymouth at The Avenue Stadium.
The Dorset rivals both play in the new Conference South and when they met at the same ground in last season’s Southern League Premier Division, more than 4,000 packed in to see a stormy 2-2 draw.
Who are the clubs who know all about The FA Cup?
Altrincham, Sutton, Leatherhead, Hayes and Tooting make a good "Famous Five".
Alty famously held Everton and Tottenham to away draws in the 1970s and achieved a 2-1 win at Birmingham City in 1986 when the Blues were a top-division side.
Now they have a home tie with Farsley Celtic, who reached the First Round Proper in 1974 and played their "home" match with Tranmere Rovers at Elland Road.
Sutton United, who visit another Conference South struggler in Eastbourne Borough, were the last non-League club to beat a top-division club in The Cup, Coventry City succumbing 2-1 at Gander Green Lane in 1989. The Us have also knocked out Aldershot, Peterborough, Colchester and Torquay.
Chris Kelly, the "Leatherhead lip", was the Surrey side’s star as they beat Colchester and Brighton to set up a Fourth Round tie against First Division Leicester City that was switched to Filbert Street.
The non-Leaguers took a surreal 2-0 lead, Kelly notching the second, before Leicester powered through for a 3-2 win. The Leatherhead "Tanners", who haven’t featured in the Competition Proper for 24 years, travel to Sandhurst Town on Saturday.
Hayes’ memorable FA Cup successes have been to put out Bristol Rovers, Cardiff City and Fulham (at Craven Cottage in 1991). They are at former FA Trophy winners Bishop’s Stortford at the weekend.
Tooting & Mitcham United, who held Nottingham Forest to a 2-2 home draw in the year in which they won The Cup (1959), host Hemel Hempstead Town at Imperial Fields.
We remember the recent FA Cup exploits of Team Bath, Vauxhall Motors and Lewes. Worcester City once knocked out Liverpool, Welling United played Blackburn Rovers, Margate played Tottenham and Harrow Borough had a 48-year-old in their team at Wycombe Wanderers four years ago.
All seven are in FA Cup action now, three victories away from a shot at Leagues One and Two in mid-November.
