Each season The FA takes The Cup on a tour of clubs, schools, hospices and community centres that are connected to the history and tradition of the competition, and this Saturday it is the turn of the Metropolitan Police, who on Saturday play host to Dulwich Hamlet in the First Qualifying Round of The FA Cup at 3pm.

In 1980, The FA’s Director of Football Development Trevor Brooking scored the only goal of the final asWest Ham defeated Arsenal 1-0 at Wembley.

Tony Brooking may not have quite the same level of notoriety, but as Club Secretary of the Met Police and brother of Trevor, he knows the impact the competition can have on players and supporters at all levels of the game.

A win on Saturday will be worth £2,250 to the victors from The FA Cup prize fund, but for Manager Jimmy Cooper and his players, just playing in the competition is enough.

"As a child kicking a ball about with your friends, how many people dreamed of playing in an FA Cup Final.

"For our players, most of whom are serving police officers, playing in the competition is the realisation of boyhood dreams, and it is also great for the profile for the Metropolitan Police", said Jimmy.

"In recent months our club committee have been discussing plans for the team to become more integrated into the local community, and by having The FA Cup at the club on Saturday, and inviting children and their parents to our facilities, this will hopefully be a great start, and is a fantastic gesture by The FA."

Supporters are invited to bring their cameras and have their photos taken at the ground between 1-3pm on Saturday, and Jimmy is keen that as many people stay for the game, to cheer the team through to the next round of the competition.

The Surrey FA Football Development Team are also contacting local schools and junior football clubs in the area to make them aware of this one-off opportunity.

FA Cup Player of the Round

In partnership with UMBRO, The FA Cup Player of the Round Award kicks off this weekend. After each round from the First Qualifying Round to the Semi Finals, three ‘outstanding’ players of each round will be nominated and fans from across the country can vote for seven days here on TheFA.com.

This year, media pundits from BBC Five Live, The Non League Paper, The Daily Telegraph, The Independent and The Times will nominate players.

The player with the most votes will then receive an engraved silver salver and £1000 of kit and equipment to donate to a local school or junior football club, furthering The FA and UMBRO's commitment to developing grassroots football.

More excitingly, the winning player also earns himself a place in The Team of The FA Cup, whereby they will be invited to the Millennium Stadium for the 2004/05 FA Cup as a VIP guest, and will be introduced to a capacity 72,500 crowd at half-time.
