Steve was voted as The FA Cup Player of the Round at the Fourth Qualifying Round stage after his hat-trick in their 6-1 demolition of Harrow Borough last season, and as a result, was invited to make the FA Cup Third Round draw live on TV with Ian Rush at FA HQ Cup.

All eleven Players of the Round from the 2003/04 were invited by The FA and Partners UMBRO as VIP guests at the Manchester United v Millwall FA Cup Final, but unfortunately Steve was unable to attend, as he was playing for the England National Game XI in the Highlands of Scotland.

By bringing the cup over to the school, Steve was finally able to get his hands on The FA Cup, and reunited him with his former teacher Paul Shannon, who benefitted from a £1000 kit donation from Steve, courtesy of UMBRO.

Over 250 children had their photos taken with the world-famous trophy, as Steve was besieged by autograph hunters lamenting the former Nottingham Forest's trainee's summer move to League Division Two side, Cheltenham Town.

Paul told TheFA.com: "The FA Cup Player of the Round is one of the best initiatives I have ever come across, as not only does it recognise the achievements of players at all levels of the competition, but has a positive impact on local grassroots communities.

"Our school has hundreds of football-daft children, both boys and girls, and we were overjoyed to be the benefactor of Steve's kit donation.

"A lot of the children will now be following Steve's career as he moves up the road to Cheltenham, but we'll be hoping that Hereford have another good cup run this season, so that we may benefit again!"

The FA Cup Player of the Round Award, in partnership with UMBRO will be back at the First Qualifying Round Stage of The FA Cup in mid-September, and you can play your part in voting for the best performance of each round on TheFA.com
