Nine-year-old Georgina, a pupil at The Croft Preparatory School, Alveston Hill, Stratford-upon-Avon, was among thousands of children to take part in the competition to design a ball fit for The FA Cup Final.

The competition, in its third year, attracted a record number of entries. A panel of judges assessed more than 6,000 entries from over 170 schools throughout England, three times more than last year.

Georgina's design featured a map of Great Britain with drawings of players representing some of the teams taking part in this year's FA Cup.

Trevor Brooking, The FA's Director of Football Development, said: " We were simply overwhelmed by the sheer number and quality of the designs but Georgina's unique entry stood out from a very impressive field.  She cleverly used teams from non-league to the Premiership in her design, which captures the very essence of The FA Cup.  Her originality impressed us enormously."

Georgina's winning design will now feature on a specially-produced, limited edition Mitre ball that will be displayed at The FA Cup Final and at The FA's London headquarters, alongside The FA Cup itself.

Mitre Marketing Manager, Paul Bell said: “Georgina’s clever and original design makes her a very worthy winner. The response was magnificent.  Mitre are delighted to be part of this grassroots initiative with The FA, and look forward working on similar projects in future”.

Georgina will be presented with the limited edition ball in a display case and will be a VIP guest at this year’s FA Cup final. The FA Cup will also be taken to The Croft Preparatory School which wins 10 ISO Mitre balls for training purposes.

Delighted Georgina said: “I chose a map of England for my design and drew in teams from all divisions – high and low – who compete in The FA Cup, in their club kits and placed them around the map of the country.  My Mum’s a geography teacher so it was really important to get it right!

I can’t wait for Cup Final day and I’m going with my Dad who is a massive Liverpool fan.  I’ll be supporting Millwall – the underdog – as we couldn’t possibly support Manchester United in our house!”

The design competition featured in The FA's highly successful Up For The Cup teaching resource; an education pack based on The FA Cup. The pack capitalises on pupils’ enthusiasm for football, helping them to learn key curriculum subjects, including literacy and numeracy.

Headmistress Dr Patricia Thompson said: “The well researched Up For The Cup resource pack caught the eye and interest of staff and pupils alike. Its cross-curricular approach encouraged pupils to research PE/Games, Design Technology, Art, History and Geography, contributing to the development of creative, imaginative and original individuals.”

Produced in conjunction with teachers, Up For The Cup features worksheets on literacy, numeracy, geography, history and PHSE (personal health and social development). FA Cup wall charts, maps, stickers and teachers' cards with background information on The FA Cup also feature in the pack.
