Malbranque (pen) | Sir Alex Ferguson had joked before this tie that United might have to start winning matches 5-4 while his defence worked themselves out of their kamikaze phase.
It wasn’t quite such a goal bonanza, but a comedic penalty given away by the Reds and converted by Fulham meant Ruud van Nistelrooy had to grab his second FA Cup double in successive rounds to ensure United progressed to the Semi-Finals.
While United had struggled at Old Trafford, Arsenal had been lauded as the world’s greatest with their Sixth Round destruction of Portsmouth.
When the two heavyweights were pitched together in the last four, the doom mongers were writing the Reds off!

Harris | Tranmere Rovers were not so convinced about it being The Lions' season. Again drawn at home, Millwall found Brian Little’s side to be well-organised and sharp in attack. Rovers defied "The Wall" at every turn, 'keeper John Achterberg saving a Kevin Muscat penalty to cap a fine performance between the sticks.
Tranmere’s Prenton Park was a vibrant sea of expectancy before the replay, both sets of fans sensing the glory of The FA Cup was finely balanced and ready to swing their way.
But after 16 minutes the winner had been struck. First, it was Tim Cahill, eleven minutes in, capitalising on a Dichio flick, to make it 1-0, and then, five minutes later, the crowd witnessed one of the best FA Cup goals of the season.
A Dichio flick, instant chest control, a tight swivel and a beautifully executed left-foot volley nestled in the far corner of the net, courtesy of Neil Harris. Gary Jones provided a consolation goal for Tranmere but it was too little, too late.
