By accumulating the most votes, Freddie also earns a place in the inaugural FA Team of The FA Cup, becoming the third Premier League player to join this elite team of outstanding performers from this season's FA Cup competition.

Ljungberg was one of three players shortlisted for the prestigious award, run in partnership with UMBRO, for The FA Cup Fifth Round.

He polled 58% per cent of the votes registered in just five days at TheFA.com following last weekend's sixth round ties, beating Sunderland striker Tommy Smith (37%) and Tranmere keeper John Achterberg (5%).

Ljungberg was one of a number of star performers, as the Gunners secured a convincing passage into the semi final. His first goal - a clipped finish into the far corner - came on 43 minutes and capped a wonderful move putting Arsenal 2-0 up and the tie beyond the reach of Pompey.  His second goal and Arsenal's fifth came on 57 minutes, a right foot shot from the edge of the area, which evaded the dive of Shaka Hislop. The Swedish international was also instrumental in setting up Henry for Arsenal's decisive first goal, making a typically penetrative run into the area to create the space for Thierry Henry.

Delighted by this recognition, Ljungberg said: "I would like to say thank you to everyone who voted. I was very happy with the Portsmouth game and it was nice to score two goals. I have had a few problems with my rib injury and that was the first game that I played without anything shielding my ribs.

“The game against Manchester United is a huge game, but we have been in three FA Cup finals in a row and hopefully we can make it four.”

As recognition of his membership of this year’s Team of The FA Cup, run in partnership with UMBRO, Freddie is to be afforded The FA VIP treatment at this year’s FA Cup Final and will be honoured on the pitch before the Cardiff crowd, unless he takes his place in the Final itself.

Trevor Brooking, The FA’s Director of Football Development, said: “The FA Cup is a magical competition. I was lucky enough to play in and win two FA Cup finals, which included scoring a winning goal in the 1980 final.

“By introducing the Player of the Round and the Team of The Cup awards, The FA is acknowledging Freddie and ten other heroes who this season will have contributed to some great results at each round of the competition since August.”

So far over a million votes have been collectively polled in Player of the Round competitions this season with football fans countrywide clambering to back the competition’s star performers. Fans who vote on-line at www.thefa.com can also win two tickets to the next FA Cup round match of their choice.

Freddie receives an engraved silver salver, an UMBRO Kit Player Package as well as £1500 worth of UMBRO football kit and equipment for a school, club, or organisation of his choice.
