Match Preview

Millwall have won all three of their FA Cup ties without the need of a replay, though the Lions have yet to face stiff opposition. Home draws against First Division rivals Wigan and Burnley saw Dennis Wise's side win by a single goal each time and in their only away tie to date, Millwall eased past non-League Telford.

Tranmere Rovers have faced a mixed bag of opponents in this season's competition, including Premiership Bolton and Ryman League Hornchurch.

Tranmere took fourteen coaches to the Reebok for the Third Round replay and Brian Little's team achieved a 2-1 extra-time win that had their fans dreaming of another long Cup run.

In an exciting finale Eugene Dadi put them ahead on 83 minutes, debutant Shakes equalised for Bolton in the last minute of normal time and Canadian Iain Hume grabbed the priceless winners seconds into the extra period

Team News

Millwall player-manager Dennis Wise is without goalkeeper Tony Warner so the three-time FA Cup winner will field either Andy Marshall or, more likely, Willy Gueret.

The manager could well play himself in the heart of the Lions' midfield whilst there is good news in the shape of Neil Harris, who may make a return and partner Danny Dichio up front.

Tranmere also have a doubt over their first-choice 'keeper as Dutchman John Achterberg has a knee problem which will undergo a late test.

Otherwise Iffy Onuora is unavailable to Brian Little as he is Cup-tied.

Magic Moments

For the home side, Danny Dichio's towering header with twenty minutes left of their Fifth Round game against Burnley was the moment that saw them through to a first quarter-final in 19 years.

Tranmere did it the hard way against Bolton, drawing at home before going to the Reebok Stadium and winning 2-1 in extra-time, Iain Hume scoring a fabulous goal.

FA Cup Pedigree

Millwall first managed to reach the FA Cup semi-finals as a Southern League club when their 1899-1900 run took them past Jarrow, QPR and Aston Villa.

Twice since then the Lions have again got as far as the last four, without ever winning. In 1903 they lost 3-0 to Derby County at Villa Park and in 1937 Sunderland beat them 2-1 at Leeds Road, Huddersfield - but Millwall had become the first Third Division side to reach that stage.

This is their first appearance in the Sixth Round since 1984/85, when Luton Town beat them 1-0 at Kenilworth Road.

Rovers have twice reached the Sixth Round - in 2000 (2-3 v Newcastle United) and 2001 (2-4 v Liverpool).

In 2001 John Aldridge's side achieved a memorable 4-3 Fifth Round replay win against Southampton at Prenton Park after being 0-3 down.

Paul Rideout, scorer of the goal that won the Cup for Everton in 1995, was a hat-trick hero for Rovers that night.
