Match-up West Ham United v Fulham

Manager

Alan Pardew Chris Coleman
Key Man Michael Carrick Steed Malbranque
FA Cup Top Scorer David Connolly (2) Louis Saha (2)

Match Preview

Fulham and West Ham United meet in an FA Cup tie for the first time since their Wembley Final 29 years ago.

The first game between the two sides ten days ago was a disappointment, being drawn 0-0. Brian Deane just missed with one of the better chances of the match.

Fulham had made hard work of beating Third Division strugglers Cheltenham Town in this season's Third Round, the now departed Saha notching the winner in the last minute. Then they overcame Premiership Everton in the extra half-hour of a replay thriller at Loftus Road.

In a season in which a quick promotion back into the top flight will be Hammers' priority they have already achieved two notable away successes in the Cup.

They won a potentially awkward Third Round tie at fellow First Division side Wigan 2-1 and then blew away Premiership Wolves at Molineux 3-1, with Deane, Harewood and Connolly all scoring in the first 32 minutes.

Team News

Alan Pardew again has six players Cup-tied which means that Matthew Etherington looks set to start, while Neil Mellor, Anton Ferdinand and Steve Lomas could also line-up in Pardew's first choice XI.

The visitors have fewer worries with only captain Lee Clark missing due to an Achilles injury.

Otherwise Chris Coleman will be able to field a strong side with defensive partners Zat Knight and Alain Goma back from a period on the sidelines.

FA Cup Pedigree

West Ham were the last club from outside the top division to lift the Cup. That was against Arsenal in 1980. It was Hammers' third Cup win, having beaten Preston North End   3-2 with Ronnie Boyce's last-gasp winner in 1964 and Fulham 2-0 with Alan Taylor's brace in 1975. They were semi-finalists in 1991 but haven't had any great Cup runs since then.

That 1975 meeting with the Hammers has been Fulham's only Final appearance to date. En route to their Wembley date they accounted for Hull City, Nottingham Forest, Everton, Carlisle United and Birmingham City. Including replays the Cottagers were involved in eleven matches!

Fulham reached the last four just two years ago, losing to John Terry's goal for Chelsea at Villa Park.
