Liverpool’s French midfielder Bruno Cheyrou has scooped the FA Cup ‘Player of the Round’ Award after fans voted in our poll.
Bruno was one of three players shortlisted for the prestigious award, run in partnership with UMBRO, for The FA Cup Fourth Round proper. Fans from all over the country registered more than 230,000 votes.
He polled 55 per cent of the votes registered in just five days on TheFA.com following last weekend’s ties, beating Swansea keeper Roger Freestone (35%) and Burnley striker Robbie Blake (10%) in one of the tightest votes to date.
The resurgent Frenchman struck twice in the all-Premier League clash with Newcastle at Anfield, giving the reds the lead on 2 minutes after a neat interchange with Steven Gerrard and adding his second on 62 minutes with a well taken header.
Cheyrou, continued his impressive goal scoring form of 4 goals in the last 5 games, helping his team through to a fifth round tie at home to newly promoted Portsmouth, and repaying the confidence Liverpool manager Gerrard Houllier has shown in him.
Cheyrou, who wins £1500 worth of UMBRO football kit and equipment for a school, club, or organisation of his choice said: “It’s a real honour to win this award, but it was only made possible by a great team performance to knock out a very good Newcastle side. I also want to thank all the Liverpool fans who took the time to vote for me on the FA website.”
Bruno also wins an UMBRO kit player package including XAI boots and training gear, as well as an engraved silver salver and becomes the first Premier League player to win a Player of the Round Award this season.
Congratulations to Bruno from everyone here at The FA.
Look out for another Player of The Round vote after the 5th Round ties.
