Canvey Island's Jeff Minton has bagged some football glory after winning the FA Cup Player of the Round award, run in partnership with UMBRO...
Midfielder Minton hit a match-winning hat-trick for Canvey Island who beat Dover Athletic 4-3 in the Third Qualifying Round, having trailed 3-1 with nine minutes to go. The former Spurs trainee and ex- Brighton, Port Vale and Rotherham player polled 50 per cent of the votes cast online at TheFA.com over the past week.
Over 13,500 votes were cast and Jeff was just 657 ahead of Buxton FC striker Caine Cheetham who polled 46 per cent. Mangotsfield United striker David Seal polled four per cent of the votes.
Canvey Island manager Jeff King said Minton thoroughly deserved the award.
"He's a popular lad, an excellent footballer with an eye for goal. He's also very creative and that's shown by the fact that his hat-trick against Dover featured three very different goals."
Jeff will be presented with an UMBRO kit player package including XAI boots and training kit, and an engraved FA salver. FA partner UMBRO will also donate £1000 worth of football kit and equipment to the school, club or organisation of Jeff's choice.
FA Director of Marketing and Communications Paul Barber said:
"Jeff's hat-trick will live long in the memory of Canvey island fans. The fact that Jeff beat Mangotsfield's David Seal to win the player of the round award will add even more spice to the Fourth Qualifying Round when the two teams meet next weekend."
Over 900 players from 84 third qualifying round teams were eligible for The FA Cup Player of the Round award.
