Southampton striker Brett Ormerod
Brett set to collect Cup Award
Thursday, 01 May 2003.
After a week of heavy voting on TheFA.com , Southampton's Brett Ormerod was confirmed as The FA Cup Player of the Round on April 22nd, after his match-winning display in the semi-final victory over Watford at Villa Park.
After his goal and assist helped The Saints reach their first FA Cup Final since 1976, Brett polled 43% of the registered votes, beating Sheffield United's midfielder Michael Brown, and Brett's FA Cup Final opponent David Seaman of Arsenal.
The Player of the Round Award is a new initiative launched this year by The Football Association and UMBRO, and is unique because it is voted for by supporters from across the world. Winners this season include Chelsea's Carlo Cudicini and Arsenal's Patrick Vieira.
As well as receiving the award, and a silver salver for himself, Brett has also been asked to nominate a local school or club to receive £1000 worth of training kit donated by FA partner UMBRO, and nominated his child's Leapfrog Nursery School in Chandlers Ford to be the lucky recipient.
The presentation will be made on the St Mary's Stadium pitch this Saturday, after the Saints' final home game of the season against Bolton Wanderers.
