Leicester City win £50,000

Leicester City's odds to win the FA Cup have been halved to 50/1 after beating Bristol City to become TheFA.com's new featured team in our cup trail.

The First Division pacesetters, who beat Bristol 3-0 in the Fifth Round two years ago, outlasted seven Premiership teams in the competition with goals from Matt Elliott, on the stroke of half-time, and Paul Dickov.
The Foxes are now rated by the bookies' as the most-fancied non-Premiership side to go all the way to the final at the Millennium Stadium in May.

Manager Micky Adams appreciates that with his club in administration after piling up £74million of debt, there is more than one good reason for a decent cup run.

"It is important from a financial point of view, not just a distraction from the league," he said.

"And from a playing point of view, cup runs give people confidence and it's important for us to build up a winning mentality".

Bristol had lost a 19-game unbeaten run at Wycombe on New Year's Day but never looked second-best against a team chasing Portsmouth at the top of Division One.

It took a routine from the training ground to give Leicester the lead just as the fans were going in for a half-time cuppa.

Nicky Summerbee's floated free-kick was headed on by Junior Lewis and Scottish international Matt Elliott finished from close range for his third goal of the season.

Summerbee also set up the killer second for Paul Dickov midway through the second half to leave Bristol wondering what might have been, had Lee Peacock not made a glaring miss after 10 minutes.

"It wasn't pretty but we didn't want to be beaten by a team from a lower division - and we weren't," said Adams.
