The highlight for the Gunners was a goal from Cesc Fabregas, but that came after Didier Drogba had struck twice for Chelsea to give them a commanding lead.

And although some will argue this defeat points to another season of domestic domination from the Blues, Wenger believes there were plenty of positives to take from the game.

"I think the match was good preparation for the championship. We are not completely 100 per cent sharp, but we were consistent and our technical qualities were good," he said.

"I am not worried for the season ahead, why should I be? Everyone seems to be concerned about us, but I am not.

"I am positive because really the result is not important. What is important is that we play another game before the league season and we do not get any injuries."

Wenger admitted that Drogba's first goal, after just nine minutes, put Chelsea in the driving seat, but he was happy with the way his relatively young team continued to battle.

"It was important to score the first goal and Chelsea did that. They were then a little bit more defensive and looked to be more direct on the attack and Drogba gave us a hard time on the long balls.

"I don't want to blame Philippe Senderos for either of the goals because that is unfair. It was maybe not his best performance, but he is not scared to play even if has made a mistake and will learn from them."
