Non-League Macclesfield Town sprung the biggest shock of Saturday’s FA Cup Third Round Proper action, as they came from behind to record a heroic 2-1 win against Cardiff City.

A massive 80 places separate the two sides but two late goals from Matthew Barnes-Homer clinched Macclesfield’s passage to the next phase and dumped the Championship leaders out of the competition.

Nathaniel Jarvis put the Bluebirds in front after 57 minutes, but Barnes-Homer levelled in the 85th minute.

Buoyed by their equaliser, Macclesfield pushed forward in search of a winner and they were awarded a penalty with just two minutes left on the clock.

And Barnes-Homer stepped forward and confidently despatched the spot-kick to send the Moss Rose faithful into raptures.

Wolves also suffered the same fate as their fellow Championship side, as they were eliminated at the hands of Conference outfit Luton Town at Kenilworth Road.

Alex Lawless’s second half strike proved to be the difference, with four-time winners Wolves generating little in front of goal.

There was no fairytale story at the Riverside Stadium where plucky Hastings United succumbed to Middlesbrough 4-1.

A brace from Merouane Zemmama, plus one each from Andy Halliday and Ishmael Miller, proved to be enough for the Championship team, while Bradley Goldburg grabbed a consolation for Hastings.

2011 FA Cup winners Manchester City also enjoyed a comfortable passage to the Fourth Round Proper as they brushed aside Watford 3-0.

First half goals from Carlos Tevez and Gareth Barry settled the tie inside the first 45 minutes, while youngster Marco Lopes, who was making his debut, marked the occasion with his first senior goal late on.

Meanwhile, there was a repeat of the 1987 FA Cup Final at White Hart Lane as Tottenham hosted Coventry City.

Unfortunately for the Midlands side, a double from Clint Dempsey and another from Gareth Bale ensured the Premier League side advanced to the next phase with ease.
