Leeds continued the weekend of upsets by eliminating Premier League opponents Tottenham from The FA Cup.
In the same week non-League Luton triumphed over Norwich and MK Dons beat QPR, Neil Warnock’s side got the better of Andre Villas-Boas’s team just hours after League One Brentford had held Chelsea to a 2-2 draw.
Luke Varney gave the Championship side an early lead as Spurs failed to convert a series of first-half chances.
Budweiser Man of the Match Ross McCormack made it 2-0 after more poor defending allowed him to turn inside Steven Caulker and smash home.
Spurs’ lone striker Clint Dempsey headed home Gareth Bale's cross late on to give the visitors hope but Jon Obika wasted a great chance to level late on.
Villas-Boas said: “Leeds made the most of their chances and we missed early chances that normally we score and when we suffer we are always chasing.
“It was good to get back in the game but we should have done better. It’s a hard game for any team that comes here. Leeds were really up for it.
“We had good opportunities but not clear cut, it’s a difficult round to play in but we should have done better.
“We are happy with the squad, this defeat won’t alert us to anything new but missing Defoe with injury was a problem but I feel we have strength in depth.”
